Yu-Gi-Oh! Story Synopsis

A young boy named Yugi is a bit small for his age and is often the victim of being bullied. One day his grandfather, who owns a local card store, gave Yugi an ancient Egyptian puzzle, called the Millennium Puzzle, to solve. After finally solving it, Yugi released the ancient spirit within. This spirit(called Yami) then became part of Yugi...a sort of alter ego who happened to be an expert at the card game, Duel Monsters. Whenever Yugi is in trouble, the much tougher and darker spirit takes over. But instead of using violence to defeat adversaries, Yugi settles disputes over a good game of Duel Monsters! However, Yugi soon discovers that he's not the only one with a Millennium Item. Lots of other people he encounters, friend and foe alike, also have one, and sometimes they can cause a lot of trouble. But Yugi is always backed up by his friends; Joey(a hot-head, but loyal to the end), Tristan(less hot-headed), Tea(the soft-spoken and reasoning one), and sometimes Bakura(whose quite mysterious and has an evil spirit inside his Millennium Ring), and Mai(sassy, aloof, and tough as nails!) Throughout their many adventures, Yugi and his friends must match wits with the diabolical mastermind, Maximillian Pegasus(who has the powerful Millennium Eye), the evil gang of duelists the Rare Hunters(led by the sinister Marik, who can control people with his Millenium Rod), and also, Yugi's arch rival Seto Kaiba! And just what is the mystery surrounding the past history of the Millennium Items, and how are Yami and even Kaiba connected to the great wars that plagued ancient Egypt, and involved monsters just like those in the present day Duel Monsters game? Are the ancient battles of the past going to repeat themselves, and will Yugi and his friends be able to stop them? Well, whatever happens, Yugi's grandfather always told him to believe in "the heart of the cards," and it's that belief which brings Yugi victory no matter what dangers lie ahead.
