Serenity is Joey's younger sister, and the two of them have been close ever since they were young children. Joey's always made it his solemn duty to watch out for her, especially during the difficult eye operation she had to go through.
Serenity's a bit shy and timid, and she often finds it hard to be strong in Joey's absence. But once she became part of Yugi's group of friends and experienced many difficult and fearful times, she learned that she shouldn't always rely on Joey to give her strength; she needs to believe in herself. Of course, if Joey's not around, Tristan and Duke take it upon themselves to protect her(though they spend more time arguing over who's the better guy for the job ^^,,,)
