Joey started out as another bully picking on Yugi. But after he saw what a kind-hearted friend Yugi is, he changed his attitude. Yugi makes friends wherever he goes but Joey is perhaps his best friend. Joey is also deeply caring of his younger sister, Serenity. When he needed money to pay for her eye operation, he entered Pegasus’s Duelist Kingdom tournament along with Yugi. Though he wasn’t able to win the $30, 000(3 million yen) prize himself, Yugi gave the prize money to him(Yugi’s main goal was to free his grandfather, so he knew Joey needed the money more than he did.)
Joey’s a hot-head and he often acts hastily in his effort to win a Duel Monsters game. But in spite of his rash attitude he has learned from his mistakes, and he’s proven himself a worthy opponent in many duels.
