Genesis of Rebirth - Ninpo Sozo Saise, Summoning Technique - Kyuichose no Jutsu
Tsunade is one of the three legendary sennins of Hidden Leaf Village, along with Jiraiya and Orochimaru. Her specialty is medical and healing techniques and she was one of the first medical ninjas to be sent on missions. She adored her little brother Nawaki who, like Naruto, had a dream of someday becoming hokage. Tsunade even gave him a special necklace she had which belonged to the second hokage. But sadly, the next day Nawaki was killed by enemy ninjas. Devastated, Tsunade decided to try and get a medical unit formed in the village's military. Her idea was rejected, but another jounin named Dan also supported her idea. Tsunade and Dan became very close and Dan also had dreams of becoming hokage. But unfortunately Dan later met the same fate as Nawaki. When he was discovered after being attacked by enemy ninjas, Tsunade tried desperately to use her healing powers to save him, but it was too late. After losing both her younger brother and lover, Tsunade lost her will to use her medical abilities at all(she also developed a crippling fear of blood.) She left Hidden Leaf Village and spent the rest of her time wandering to different villages, trying to ease the scars in her heart by drinking and gambling. Her only companions were her loyal attendant Shizune and her pet pig TonTon.
After the Third hokage was killed by Orochimaru, it was decided that Tsunade was the only sennin worthy of succeeding him. Jiraiya and Naruto left the village to search for her. Once they found her and told her that she was to become the next hokage, she scoffed at the idea and refused to go back to Hidden Leaf Village with them. Enraged that she would insult the title of hokage, Naruto got into a fight with her and proclaimed that, unlike her, he would become hokage someday no matter what. And after Naruto risked his life to protect her when Kabuto attacked, she finally began to warm up to him. She realized that his strong will and determination to become hokage were a lot like Nawaki and Dan's, and perhaps she felt that through Naruto she was given another chance to help someone fulfill their dream of becoming hokage. After the fight, Tsunade used her medical powers to heal Naruto and she also gave him the necklace that she had given to Nawaki. They then returned to Hidden Leaf Village and Tsunade finally agreed to become the Fifth hokage.
