Neji Hyuga

Seiyuu: Takaichi Touchika

Ninja Techniques:

Byakugan

Neji is considered one of the most talented and strongest of the genin - a real genius. The combination of the Byakugan in his eyes, which allows him to see through anything, including his enemies' attacks, plus his powerful Hyuga style taijutsu and opening point attacks, make him a deadly opponent. Neji's confident and usually pretty merciless in battle, so one would never guess about the trauma of his past.

Neji was born into the "branch" family of the Hyuga clan - the part of the family that was shunned by the main family and was supposed to serve them in every way. His father, Hizashi, was the younger twin brother of the head of the main family, Hiashi(Hinata is Hiashi's daughter, which makes her and Neji cousins.) Hizashi showed Neji nothing but his hatred for the main family and he cursed his destiny for making him born into the branch family. During this time, Hidden Leaf Village had signed a peace treaty with the Hidden Cloud Village, but afterward the Hidden Cloud Village broke the treaty by sending one of their ninjas to kidnap Hinata so they could learn more about the Hyuga clan's Byakugan. Hiashi killed the ninja in order to save Hinata, but the Hidden Cloud Village tried to cover up their betrayal by blaming Hidden Leaf Village for killing their ninja and breaking the treaty. In order to prevent war, they demanded the head of the Hyuga family, Hiashi, to be turned over to them. Eventually it was decided that Hizashi would be sacrificed instead, since it was his duty as a branch family member to protect the main family. Since then, Neji bore an even deeper hatred against the main Hyuga family, and he bitterly believed that his birth into the branch family was an unchangeable curse from destiny. He took out a lot his anger on Hinata during Round Two of the chuunin exams. After that, Naruto swore that he would defeat as pay him back for fighting Hinata so ruthlessly.

Neji never learned the truth about what happened to his father until after Naruto defeated him in Round Three. After the battle, Hiashi approached Neji with a scroll that Hizashi wanted him to have once he was old enough to understand what it said. In the scroll, Hizashi explained that Hiashi was prepared to be the one sacrificed to the Hidden Cloud Village in order to prevent war, but Hizashi had actually chosen to go instead. Hiashi had protested, but Hizashi explained that he wasn't doing it because it was his duty as a branch family member - he wanted to do it in order to save his brother and to protect Neji and his village. It was something he decided for himself, which proved that destiny can be changed and overcome even by someone like him. He then advises Neji to overcome his destiny as well. After Neji read the scroll, Hiashi apologized to him for everything and Neji accepted. Since then Neji became much more at peace with himself and he decided to make his own destiny from then on, which is actually what Naruto told him at the end of their battle…to stop bitching about his destiny and do something for himself.
