Having been born in the year of the ox, Hatsuharu was often teased when he was a child because of how the ox was portrayed in the old folktale. The folktale stated that when the animals were on their way to the party, the rat had tricked the foolish ox into letting him ride on his back the whole way. Upon arriving, the rat quickly jumped off the ox's back and thus got there first. This caused Hatsuharu to bear a deep hatred towards Yuki, since he was born in the year of the rat. Although Haru is usually calm and passive, he has a "dark" side to him too(nicknamed "Black Haru) that can take him over at any moment and turn him into a raging lunatic who only wants to fight.
