Meilin and Li are cousins that've known each other since they were little. At first, Meilin didn't like him very much, but that all changed when Li went out in the pouring rain to rescue Meilin's little bird that had flown away. Since then, Meilin developed an overly enthusiastic love for Li and wanted to make him her fiance! When Li came to Japan from Hong Kong to collect the Clow Cards, Meilin followed soon after, and insisted on helping him. When she discovered that Sakura was also collecting the Clow Cards, she was determined to help Li get them before Sakura did. Later on, her rivalry with Sakura came to an end and they became good friends before Meilin had to move back to Hong Kong. However, when she came back to visit Japan, Li confessed to her that he had found someone that he truly loved - Sakura. Meilin was devastaded by this news, but she learned to accept it because she just couldn't bring herself to hate Sakura or Li. Even though Meilin a little short tempered and stuck-up, and she doesn't have any magical powers, she's helped Sakura and Li many times in their adventures.
